You Have Small Bald Spots on Your Head
Patchy and small, round bald spots on your head is called alopecia areata. This uncommon autoimmune disorder aims straight for your hair follicles causing uneven hair loss. Men and women alike experience this autoimmune disorder equally, affecting approximately 3% of the population.
Autoimmune disorders are about the immune system, usually not the targeted or affected areas. Often thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and hypothyroidism are also linked to alopecia. Improved diet, steroids and thyroid medications are three suggestions for addressing the disorder, as well as for strengthening the immune system. These measures should help lower attacks on the targeted areas while encouraging hair re-growth in some. Visit your endocrinologist for more information.
