Eye problems
Second on our list is eye problems, including glaucoma and cataracts, which affect a large portion of individuals with diabetes. When it comes to vision loss amongst middle-age Americans, diabetes is usually the culprit. As we mentioned above, diabetes can affect the blood vessels of the body, and the blood vessels of the eyes are no different. Diabetes can lead the blood vessels of the eyes to react in a way that can lead to vision impairment, and in extreme cases total blindness. This is why it is even more important for those with diabetes to keep on top of their eye health by seeing an optometrist more often than those without it.
It is important to contact your doctor if you happen to experience issues with your vision, including blurry vision or sensitivity to light. Luckily, often, if caught early these issues can be stopped if you seek medical advice and stick to it.
