6 Signs You’re Low in Iron

What About Taking Supplements?

It is perfectly safe and very advisable to boost your intake of foods that are rich in iron. However, it is not a good idea to take any supplements until you have a blood test done so that your levels can be measured. Once you know your levels, you can know how much to intake because taking too much can actually harm your body.

If you have been advised by a medical care provider take supplements, you should know that one side effect from these tablets include constipation. If this occurs, a lower dose may be needed or a gentler alternative like Floradix. However, it’s important to ask your doctor first.

Make sure to always take these supplements while on an empty stomach. To help with absorption, drink the supplements with orange juice, lemon water, or a vitamin C supplement. You should avoid taking them with coffee or tea because they contain compounds that can block absorption.
