If you have been feeling ill lately, such as suffering from colds and frequent heartburn, feeling bloated, or having difficulty sleeping, these may be signs that you have a problem with your gut. Stephen Thomas, a nutritional therapist, shares the top 10 signs that you need to improve your stomach health:
Feeling Low
If you are constantly in a low mood and it has been longer than two weeks, it may be depression. There is an important link between our digestive system and depression. A prominent example is that when we are feeling low, we often do not have the appetite to consume food. Instead, we turn to processed food that is rich in sugar.
Poor diet transforms stomach flora, which affects mood and later impacts health because toxin-producing bacteria can cross the natural barrier of the blood-brain and intestines. Serotonin, the happy neurotransmitter, which is produced in the stomach, is hindered because beneficial bacteria that generate it are also blocked.
